Five days to illustrate Milano's audience what Leeds can offer, both from the economic and the cultural point of view. From October 13th to October 17th, the English city will present itself at Palazzo Reale through a set of seminars, conferences and shows. The whole event is organized by the UK Trade and Investment department of the British Consulate General in Milano and by the company Marketing Leeds, which aim at promoting it not only as a business centre, but also as a tourist destination.
Leeds is one of one of the British cities that is currently experiencing the most significant growth: as for financial and commercial services, it is the biggest centre in UK after London. In particular, it is seen as a creative hub for the media, the sector counting over 13,600 employees.
According to a recent survey, 91% of Leeds' residents think that their city guarantees a very good life quality. General satisfaction can be explained in many ways: having a look at the Consulate's data, you'll notice that it is the only city in the North of England that hosts its own lyric, theatre and ballet companies: two of them, the Opera North and the Northern Ballet, will perform at the Triennale theatre on October 16th. Besides, according to last year's 'Which Food Guide', it is among the best five British cities as for its restaurants. In 2006 the 'Rough Guide to Britain' also claimed that it was the best destination for shopping.
