After Vigorelli, Muslims' prayer takes place at Palasharp

De Corato: a very good agreement before the definitive solution

One Friday at Vigorelli, then the transfer to Palasharp, while waiting to find a definitive solution. After a summit between the prefecture and the representatives of the Forza Italia party, now it seems the most likely destiny for Jenner avenue's Muslism: their prayer is due to take temporarily place first of all in the former velodrome, then in the indoor stadium located in the San Siro area which usually hosts concerts and sports events.

Milano's deputy mayor and municipal councillor for Security Riccardo De Corato voiced his satisfaction. "Last Friday I had suggested using the Palasharp as one of the possible temporary worship places, until we find a more suitable one for the definitive transfer," he explained. "In view of the technical meeting with institutions, I think that this agreement is extremely good."

"Besides," he added, "the possible definitive solution can't be but an area outside Milano and its hinterland, in a non-urbanized, non-residential and non-commercial zone. Because of its smooth road connections, Segrate's mosque is a model." The plan, which was conceived by the municipal councillor for Sports and Leisure Giovanni Terzi, provides that the Palasharps hosts Friday's prayer until the end of August.

However, this idea has not been agreed with by the the Christian Democratic party Udc. "We must stop thinking of this issue as an emergency," claimed the Udc's group leader for the Municipal Committee Pasquale Salvatore. "Only an inter-institutional table could lead to a solution that could be accepted both by citizens, who still have difficulty in welcoming the prayer in their neighbourhoods, and by Muslim prayers, whose right to pray can't be questioned within a multicultural society like ours."
