Roberto Bolle takes classical ballet to Duomo square

A star-studded cast dances with him in the free show

If there is somebody nowadays who can turn classical ballet into a popular phenomenon, that somebody is Roberto Bolle. The famed Italian dancer is going to make the magic happen on Sunday night, when he will dance in the Duomo square in occasion of the gala 'Roberto Bolle and Friends', the second free rendezvous of the initiative that last week took to the cathedral's courtyard the musicians of the Teatro alla Scala.

"To perform in front of thousand of people is a unique experience," explained the 33 year old étoile, who has just danced in Roma's Colosseo and Napoli's Plebiscito square. "This free show will allow many people who are not usually able to enter the Scala to approach the ballet's world." In order to do it, the repertoire is going to be a varied one, with an effective mingling of dance schools, styles and techniques. Two mega screens are going to be installed on the square to help all the spectators, also those who won't manage to sit under the stage, to enjoy the performances.

Bolle himself is going to open the show with Mozart's 'Ave Verum', whose choreographies have been created by Renato Zanella. Together with Sabrina Brazzo, a dancer of the Milanese theatre as well, he is going to dance Roland Petit's 'Arlesienne', Forsythe's 'In the Middle' and, with Natasha Novotna from the Nederlands Dans Theater, Kylián's 'Petite Mort'. The whole cast is full of international stars, like Alicia Amatrian (Stuttgart Ballet) and Ul'jana Lopatkina (Saint Petersburg's Mariinskij Ballet).
