Chef Gualtiero Marchesi returns with 'Marchesino' at La Scala

The restaurant takes up the premises of the former Biffi

After a 15-year exile in his 'Locanda Alebereta' in Franciacorta, Gualtiero Marchesi returns to Milano with 'Il Marchesino', a restaurant-coffee bar placed in the complex of Teatro alla Scala. The famous chef inherits the premises of the former 'Biffi Scala', which have been refurnished by Ettore Mocchetti with red velvets, grey-black wood and pictures on music. Milano's mayor Letizia Moratti and Stephan Lissner, La Scala's superintendent, took part in the inauguration of the restaurant. Its opening hours go from 7.30 am to 1 am, and will offer both breakfast and the 'after-Scala'.

"This is an important comeback for the greatest Italian and Milanese chef, who is Milanese because he is very international " said Moratti "He has managed to interpret the cuisine of the Italian tradition by combining it with innovation. The celebrated yellow risotto with gold leaf is just one of the examples. A place that is a real symbol for our city will be livened up again by a living symbol such as Gualtiero Marchesi."

"Milano is my city" underlined the chef "When some years ago someone asked me if I felt like going back to Milano I joked and answered that I would if they had given me a room of the Castello Sforzesco, the Duomo or the Scala. Here I am. I associate music and cuisine, because my family is made up of musicians. A whole wall of the restaurant will be dedicated to my family, which on my wife's side can boast five generations of musicians."
