Milano's position in the ranking of the cities with the most expensive rents is stable, while Roma is rising toward the top. The capital of Lombardia keeps the 42nd position in the world and the 11th in Europe. Among the biggest metropolis not only do Tokyo, London and Paris beat Milano, but also, just to name a few, Kiev, Dubai, Jakarta and Honolulu.
In Milano the rent for a furnished two-room flat on the average reaches 920 euros per month (+20 euros compared to 2006), in Tokyo the same kind of rents soar to 3,117 euros, in New York 3,040 euros and in Tianjin 2,280 euros, while in Tunisi, the cheapest city, 139 euros are enough. For a non-furnished four-room apartment, in Milano 1,350 euros on average are demanded, which turn into 5,000 euros in the Japanese capital and 4,400 euros in Beijing.
If we consider the individual categories, Milano is 42nd in the world ranking and 11th in the continental one as for the cost of furnished flat's rents (one position less than in 2006). As for non-furnished flats, it is 43rd (three-room apartments) and 46th (four-room apartments) at the world level, but in Europe it remains just outside the top-ten.
These are the results of a study carried out by Milano's Chamber of Commerce, through the 'Borsa Immobiliare', a Chamber's special company, based on data coming from the Economist Intelligence Unit - Economist concerning 120 big cities around the world. The overall index is calculated by taking into account the cost of the rents of flats, both furnished (two and three-room apartments) and non-furnished (three and four-room apartments), equipped with the same standards.
