LA SCALA: BEFORE THE OPENING, HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE SHOWS

A cycle of conferences to understand the works to be staged

Sometimes spectators of opera and ballet shows are in need of a guide in order to follow live productions. Starting from this idea, the La Scala theatre launched 'Prima delle prime' (Before the openings), a cycle of talks dedicated to the public, as an invitation and preparation to the performances on stage. These special 'lectures' are carried out by experts and have a double purpose: explaining the less-known works and analysing the most famous ones in detail.

The Arturo Toscanini foyer hosts the meetings, which are free and don't require any booking, a few days before the beginning of every event at 6 p.m. The next appointment is on May 7th with the introduction of Fiamma Nicolodi to Luigi Dallapiccola's 'Il prigioniero' and Béla Bartók's 'Bluebeard's Castle', whose debut at La Scala is scheduled on May 18th.

The initiative is organised by the non-profit association 'Amici della Scala' (La Scala's Friends), which since 1978 carries out many side-activities of the theatre, both on a national and local level: concerts, exhibitions, conferences, receptions, all aimed at protecting La Scala's cultural heritage while spreading its knowledge.
