JOHN BOCK: THE UNPREDICTABLE PERFORMER ATTEMPTS THE MOVIES

At the Marconi Gallery a complete vision on the artist's work

After four years, Milano hosts again a solo exhibition of the German artist John Bock, one of the most appreciated creative geniuses on the international scene, who in 2004 was the guest of Trussardi Foundation. Now it's Giò Marconi Gallery that houses "John Bock - Inside Beyond" until May 24th: not only sculptures and design, but also two movies and, above all, an opening performance as unpredictable as its protagonist.

In his improvised "Lectures" everything can happen: abstract patterns are mixed with pop music, economics analysis may room to bizarre fancy dresses. Bock, who perfectly plays the role of the crazy scientist, sometimes builds real time his tools. In order to reach the installation's space, which takes up the entire gallery's ground floor, the audience must go beyond a heavy armoured door and walk through a meander of wooden tunnels.

'Inside beyond' is an experimental movie made up by eight parts in which Bock co-stars with two actresses. The other film, 'Palm', is halfway between a gangster movie and a horror and proves the evolution undergone by his idea of shooting a video. Since 2001, the 43 year-old performer has been using growingly complex editing and recording techniques, which turn his production into something even more erratic.
