Glossy covers, red carpets and fashion shows are not the only things that make up the fashion world. Of course the glamorous side often overshadows the complex mechanism that pushes it forward thanks to several professions, work dynamics, organisation and ability to manage the talents. That's why the 'Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda', a platform-association that gathers the main Milanese academies, has launched 'Feed on Fashion', an event whose aim is both to make people aware of the process behind every collection and give visibility to emerging designers.
From May 8th to May 10th, the Spazio Pelota of Palermo street hosts the happenings, which will involve the students of nine prestigious schools, from IED to the Istituto Marangoni, from NABA to the Domus Academy. The set up's theme is the game, more precisely 'Gira la moda', a cult game for the girls of the 80's, who were able to create their ideal look on a cardboard support.
The playful atmosphere will be re-enacted through an itinerary dedicated to the four main work areas: design (fashion designer, accessories designer, etc), production (tailor, pattern makers, etc), retail (brand manager, store manager, etc) and communication (public relations manager, fashion journalist, etc). Open meetings with field's professionals and creative workshops will complete the didactic offer.
The initiative also encloses a contest, 'Feed on Fashion Award 2009': the brightest five talents of the schools' platform will be given the chance to realise a totally financed 15-outfit collection to be displayed during the next edition of the event. Besides, one of the finalists will be able to produce and distribute his collection for the two following seasons. A unique opportunity to promote creativity and the sponsorship system, which in other countries has already helped many talented designers.
