250 pictures and 4 videos tell the life of an icon and 82 years of Italian history (1921-2003). 'Il secolo dell'Avvocato' (the Lawyer's century), the exhibition dedicated to Gianni Agnelli which after Roma and Torino stops in Milano's Palazzo della Ragione until June 2nd, is a collection of fragments that convey the greatness of a versatile and passionate personage.
The picture gallery is divided into four sections, which describe as many existential seasons: 'Il Ragazzo' (The Boy), 'L'Avvocato' (The Lawyer), 'Il Senatore' (The Senator) and 'L'altro Avvocato' (The other Lawyer). First of all the strict education imparted by Miss Parker, the governess, the early death of his father Edoardo, the holidays in Cote d'Azur and the marriage with Marella Caracciolo di Castagneto. In the middle there is the Second World War, that Agnelli fights together with the Americans.
During the prolific post-war years, the Lawyer's responsibilities inside Fiat (Italian Automobile Factory of Turin) increase. The thirty years (1966-1996) as the company's president turn him into one of the most important European industrialists, one of the most known and praised Italians, a sort of 'institution'. Everybody loves him, from presidents to monarchs, from Kennedy to Chirac, from Queen Elizabeth II to Juan Carlos of Spain.
Capitalism, communism, terrorism, globalisation: Agnelli testifies to all the main historical changes and also because of this in 1991 he's elected a senator for life. The exhibitive itinerary gives a lot of spaces to his passions too. To begin with, sports, especially football and his team, Juventus, art (he chased works and painters all over the world) and cinema.
