THE SALONI: THE BEST OF HOME FURNISHING ON DISPLAY FOR SIX DAYS

Until Monday, five exhibitions attract almost 300,000 visitors

As every year during spring time, for six days Milano is the epicenter of the international home furnishing thanks to the Saloni, which take place at Rho-Pero Fairgrounds starting today until April 21st. Five exhibitions bring to Milano the best designers and producers and, of course, thousands of amateurs, who want to find out all the trends related to domestic furnishing, from single pieces to coordinates.

The 47th edition is due to beat most of the event's records: just to list a few numbers, the exhibiting companies are 2,450, around 280,000 visitors (over a half coming from abroad) are expected to dip into the classy and sophisticated atmosphere of the Saloni. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, together with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, and Eurocucina are well settled in the happening's tradition.

The SaloneUfficio has been gaining a growing importance for the furniture industry, as banks, insurance companies, post offices and communities are asking for new solutions to make the workplace better. One of the two Saloni's collateral events (the other being Peter Greenaway 'The Last Supper' at Palazzo Reale) is 'Segno Arte Uffici' by renowned artist Michelangelo Pistoletto: the project aims to provide viewers with an entirely new take on the workplace theme, also through a series of conventions lead by experts.

Besides, SaloneSatellite gives space to young and talented designers from all over the world. This year, the 570 participants (who were selected by a strict panel of architects, designers and artistic directors) were asked to contribute to a specific issue, 'Viva il verde! Go green!'. The latter will entail presenting plans dedicated to the environment which will regard both ecology and sustainability. This is because today thinking of our planet's future has become a duty of luxury artists too.
