LeNS (Learning Network on Sustainability), a project financed by the UE program Asia Link (EuropAid) that involves seven universities - three European and four Asian ones - was presented yesterday at Milano's Politecnico. Its aim is to promote the teachings of sustainable design, so that new generation's designers will be able to conceive products, services and innovative systems thinking of a sustainable (from an environmental point of view) and socially fair future. This plan lasts three years and it is coordinated by the Politecnico's Department INDACO - Industrial Design, Art, Communication and Fashion.
Didactic patterns, materials and instruments both for students and teachers, guidelines for the introduction of specific university courses and a free access web platform, are just some of the elements that constitute LeNs. Basically, the starting point will be the analysis of the current situation in the design field considering not only every single educational institution's needs, but also the international scenario and the global targets defined by the UN General Assembly, for the "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development". The seven universities will cooperate to project didactic patterns and courses and will share their knowledge through the web platform. The exchange of information and material will take place during three "cycles" corresponding to multiple subjects (food chain, mobility and health).
