"Eyes on the Planet" is the name of an international photographic contest - sponsored, among others, by Sports and Leisure Milano Council Office and the Province of Milano - characterized by a strong social and environmental trait. The aim of the contest in fact is to raise awareness among young people of the most urgent socio-environmental issues by inviting them to document the changes our planet is undergoing.
Addressed to young emerging photographers and to photographic enthusiasts between the age of 18 and 35, the contest will be open from March to September 2008.
Pictures taken - which must be representative of four categories (environment, people, climate and food) will be evaluated by a panel made up of 13 famous photographers and people from institutions and media: the winners will be awarded products offered by sponsors, workshops and grants for professional or recreational training courses. The awards will be given out in Milan in November 2008 at Palazzo Marino, premises of the Municipality.
It is a prestigious contest that highlights two important missions of the local administration" said Milano Municipality Councillor for Sports and Leisure, Giovanni Terzi. "First there is the aim to safeguard and increase awareness of the threats to the environment, secondly the contest offers concrete training and working opportunities to young artists".
