Altogether six thousand families of the San Siro borough in Milan have now access to district heating, an earth friendly system for distributing heat generated in a centralized location for residential and commercial heating requirements.
"The extension of district heating to the San Siro area - explained Mayor Letizia Moratti - is an important project with which the Council provides clean energy to six thousand families. The benefits are primarily economic: the savings can vary in fact between 400 and one thousand euros according to whether the whole heating system is replaced with a gasoline or a methane system. In addition - added Moratti - there will be a 24 hour intervention service and maintenance costs will be eliminated".
Mayor Moratti has also stressed the positive effects on the air quality: "With this system we will cut down pollution, reducing by about 250 thousand tons the Co2 emissions.
Goal of the Municipality plan is to provide district heating to 500 thousand families within four years. "An objective that will contribute to reducing the pollution of our city" added Environment City Councillor, Edoardo Croci.
