IN LOMBARDIA REGION IN 2008 ONE NEWLY EMPLOYED OUT OF 5 IS NON EU

Labor Ministry: in the Region also high labor mobility

In the Regione Lombardia in the last month one out of five newly employed workers was non European. The data comes from the Labour Ministry, which since January 11th has been setting up a comprehensive archive regarding all contract data (employment, contract extensions, suspensions and so on) which starting March 1st will become obligatory for all employers.

According to government figures, in addition, 44 per cent of new contracts drawn up in 2008 are open ended, a 20 point advantage in comparison to national average which gives the Regione Lombardia a leading role.

Another important aspect is the high labor mobility. According to official figures open ended contracts are quickly replaced by other employees; a typical trend of vivacious contexts where labor change over is rapid and workers easily move on to better occupations.

Egyptians are in the front line of foreign laborers in Lombardia with newly signed contracts, (1.900 contracts) followed by Moroccans (1.775 contracts), Ecuadorians (908), Peruvians (917) Filipinos (847) and Ukrainians (822).

Hotel and catering trade is by far the sector where most contracts have been drawn up in the last month, followed by building and home help.
