INTERNATIONAL PRESS PRAISES ITALIAN TOURISM OFFER

Beaches, skiing resorts and cities are major attractions

From the breathtaking coastline and beaches to the countless artistic and cultural sites to the food and wine exquisite offer: Italy beats the charm of exotic destinations and 2008 will see a boost in visitors entering the country for vacation.

According to the Tourism International Organization, in 2007 the number of tourists in Italy increased by 7 per cent; in terms of destination Italy is second only to France, Spain, Usa, China.

A research by Bitlab 2008, commissioned for the Bit (Borsa Internazionale Turismo) which will take place in Milan between 21 and 24 February, in addition points out to the international press reviews on the country, listed as one of the most popular destinations.

"From Milan to Rome, from pasta to pizza, from Gucci to Prada, Italy is famous for a great deal of attractions, from historic cities to fantastic cuisine, to luxurious fashion" writes the "Gulf News" in one of its reports. Leader as the most romantic destination thanks to the beautiful cities, from Venice to Florence, from Rome to Naples: "Honeymoons: Italy beats Hawaii" writes the "Los Angeles Times", "Basilicata like the Caribbean" dares the English "Guardian".

The positive trend is also confirmed in international magazines and surveys. In an opinion poll by Australia's "Virgin Travel" the Grand Canal in Venice is listed second out of ten world's attraction, after Petra in Jordan. In "Reader's travel Awards 2007" Italy is yet again second out of twenty preferred destinations. Courmayeur is listed as the best skiing resort in terms of cuisine for the "Guardian", Tropea in Calabria and Chia in Sardinia are first and fifth in the "Times" top world beach resorts.
