Mayor of Milano Letizia Moratti interrupted her international diplomatic tour which, after New York and Washington, would have brought her to Australia, United Arab Emirates and South Korea in search of support for the Expo 2015 bid in view of the vote on March 31st in Paris.
Mrs Moratti's priority however seems to be Malpensa: no way would she have missed the meeting with the government which will probably take place tomorrow, just in time for her to return to Italy.
After the speech on climate change at the United Nations, her latest business commitment was in Washington where she signed an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank aimed at supporting developing countries. "Indeed it is the first time the IDB signs an agreement with a city" she explained. "Expo represents a valid tool to carry forward these kind of projects and attract new resources".
The main themes of the agreement are: the co-funding of remittance to aid immigrant's community and develop new activities in their countries of origin (10 million Euro), food safety (one million Euro) and protection of biodiversities (five million and 400 thousand Euro). "This is just one of the various projects we are working on" assured Mrs Moratti not without stressing the Municipality's commitment towards the Expo 2015: "The work will continue well after the vote" she said.
