Italian institutions of Lombardia Region have presented a manifesto to rescue the Malpensa airport. In a conference organized at Palazzo Mezzanotte by the Camera di commercio, yesterday Mayor Letizia Moratti stressed that: "There is little time left, we must act quickly". Region President Roberto Formigoni added: " Alitalia has started the Airport desertification process".
The manifesto has been signed by businessmen, associations and institutions which represent the Region. Among the requests is the review of the bilateral negotiations which should lead to reconsider Italian's Air One offer, and a "moratorium" which could be fulfilled in a three year time to stop the process that will eventually lead Alitalia to abandon Malpensa.
"We believe it is a reasonable and serious offer, delivered in the interest of the whole nation" said Formigoni, explaining that 42 per cent of national export comes from Lombardia which in turn attracts 52 per cent of foreign investments.
