MONTALCINI WILL RECEIVE HONORARY DEGREE FROM BICOCCA UNIVERSITY

The Industrial Biotechnology diploma awarded on January 22nd

Medicine Nobel laureate Rita Levi Montalcini will receive an honorary degree in industrial biotechnologies from the Bicocca University in Milan which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The ceremony will take place on January 22nd at the presence of the University Chancellor Marcello Fontanesi and of the professors head of the 8 departments.

In awarding the honorary degree, the Bicocca University cited Levi Montalcini's "merit in having opened the path to the comprehension of the mechanisms through which complex organism's cells communicate and in having, moreover, highlighted the role of the scientists in supporting ethical and social values". Last but not least the University has underlined the 99 year old Italian nerologist's contribution to the fruitful collaboration with the Bicocca in the implementation of biotechnological applications".

The ceremony will start with the speech of Chancellor Marcello Fontanesi which will be followed by the Laudatio reading on behalf of lady professor Lilia Alberghina and the lectio doctoralis of Senator Levi-Montalcini.
