MILAN MUNICIPALITY SETS ASIDE FUNDS FOR IMMIGRATION PROJECTS

The resolution was approved by Town Council at the end of 2007

The municipality of Milan has set aside 400 thousand euros to support cooperation and international solidarity projects with a particular focus on immigration, development and social integration. Applications can be made by non-profit-making organizations, immigrant's associations and single individuals as long as the applicants collaborate with non-profit-making associations in their country of origin, as indicated by the resolution, approved by the Town Council on December 21st 2007. Those who participate, in addition, must be residents in the Milan Province.

The aim of the competition is to strengthen international cooperation strategy in order to value the impact of immigrants, both in the socioeconomic growth of the countries of origin and in the integration process in the Milan territory. The goal is set in accordance with the 2006 Migration and Development Document of the United Nations and the Eu guiding lines for co-development. Single individuals or organizations will have to either come from or focus on a particular area: Africa, Latin America, Asia and extra Eu Europe.

The projects will be aimed at how to value the human and social impact of the immigrants. The fields of interest are: social, economic and cultural development of their native community; development of profitable initiatives which involve both country of origin and the Milan territory; canalization of remittance for local development, enforcement of the immigrant's associations which promote local integration.
