SOCCER, 2007: A GOLDEN YEAR FOR AC MILAN AND FC INTER

Nerazzurri winners in Italy, rossoneri on the European scene

Kakà and Ibrahimovic, Maldini and Materazzi: the winners of the 2007 Italian football have the colors of the two milanese teams. Carlo Ancelotti's Milan during the course of the year conquered the Champions League and the Fifa Club World Cup of Yokoama, whereas Roberto Mancini's Inter has broken all records of Italian championship, winning the 15th shield and achieving the winter title of the season, with two games to spare. The "nerazzurri" (black and blue) even won the two derbies of 2007, in both cases 2-1.

However if the Italian role is by all means remarkable so is that of Milan on an international scale: Captain Maldini's team conquered in Athens the seventh Champions League, in the return match with Liverpool. A unique night in particular for Filippo Inzaghi, everlasting top striker protagonist of the two goals which led to the trophy. The exceptional year of the rossonero (black and red) attacker was also enriched by other two goals at Yokoama, in the final of the Fifa Club World Cup, where Ancelotti's team defeated 4-2 Boca Juniors. "Champions of Europe and of the world", celebrate the supporters. Last but not least, the two prestigious international awards which were won by the Brazilian player Kakà: the talented midfielder won both the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year.

On the other hand, Inter collected an extraordinary series of important results in the Championship, conquering the 2006/2007 title and confirming its national leadership even in the first part of 2007/2008 season. The nerazzurri, in the 37 matches which took place in 2007, scored altogether 92 points with an average of 2 points 48 each game: an unpreceded result since three points have been assigned for each victory. The record of positive results lasted 23 games; 28 those with no defeats in the away matches (20 were won, eight finished in a draw).

The triumphant year of the two teams, which in the meantime have both flown to Dubai to relax under the sun during the Christmas break, ended with the "Christman Derby" on December the 23rd. The Italian champions defeated the European and World Champions and the never ending diatribe between the supporters on which of the two is stronger is bound to continue, perhaps without ever reaching a conclusion. In the meantime the Stadium "Meazza" is becoming more and more the "football Scala".
